Acupuncture Courses That Fit In With Your Life

Most of our students are mature people with jobs and families. Studying on our BSc in Acupuncture takes dedication and commitment - however we offer study choices that allow you to fit your studies around work and other obligations. You can choose:

  • To study over three or four years
  • To study at weekends or weekdays (on both the three-year and four-year courses)
  • How you fit in your days in our teaching clinic

Our three-year (full-time) BSc in Acupuncture

This option is popular with students who have not studied at undergraduate level. Students living in England and Scotland can access a full-time student government loan for this pathway which helps to pay for the course and with living expenses.

If you have not accessed student funding before you can still choose to study on the four-year (part-time) BSc in Acupuncture, and access a part-time student loan, if this is a better fit for you.

Our four-year (part-time) BSc in Acupuncture

This option is popular with students who have already studied at undergraduate level and students living in England can access a part-time student loan for this pathway which helps to pay for the course and with living expenses. If you already have an undergraduate degree, you CAN’T access a student loan for our three-year (full-time) BSc in Acupuncture. However, you can choose the Three Year option if you are self-funding.

"I decided to study on the four-year (weekday) course option; to allow for a pace that I feel personally fitted my personality and lifestyle. I am in no rush. It works around my creative career very well and I’m glad I went for it over the three year path way. I am enjoying all the course, but am finding the practical classes really interesting. All the information is new and exciting, but you really get to put into practice things you learn in a supportive and enjoyable way. The personal growth and reflection that seems to be coming through studying the course, I am finding really powerful. Weekend study

The weekend course runs every other weekend during term time. The classroom attendance is 10am to 6pm on Saturday and 9:30am to 5:30pm on Sundays. Around a third of your classes are online – the rest are in-person. This option is popular with students who are traveling from further afield who stay over on Saturday night (often with one of our reasonably priced local accommodation providers).

Weekday study

The weekday course runs every week during term time for two half days each week. The classroom attendance is 10am to 1:30pm. This is a popular option with students living close to the NCA, and with students who have family commitments.

Flexible clinical learning

One of the unique features of the NCA acupuncture courses is that you start learning in clinic right from the get-go and your clinical days build throughout your training.

If you are studying on the three-year (full-time) BSc in Acupuncture, you have:

  • 5 days in Year 1
  • 15 days in Year 2
  • 25 days in Year 3

If you are studying on the four-year (part-time) BSc in Acupuncture, you have:

  • 5 days in Year 1
  • 5 days in Year 2
  • 15 days in Year 3
  • 25 days in Year 4

The NCA teaching clinic is open Monday to Friday, as well as some Saturdays over the summer, and you choose which days you attend clinic. Once your clinic days are set we expect you to attend on your chosen days. You are also asked to arrange practitioner observation visits (POVs). These days, which you arrange yourself, enable you to observe fully-qualified practitioners in their clinics. There are two of these days in Year 1 and three in Year 2.

"I have grown up with acupuncture all my life as my dad is an acupuncturist. This has allowed me to have a unique perspective into understanding how it works and ultimately is what led me to want to study it. I am the youngest student in my year group, however I find it so interesting as the varying age groups and life experiences allow everyone to look at the same work with a different perspective. When we are given the opportunity to give our personal thoughts or opinions, they are insightful to hear. In general, no matter the age, everyone is lovely. We are all in the same boat, learning something entirely new, and everyone helps each other. As acupuncturists of the future, we will all deal with a broad range of ages, so this experience gives me the opportunity to live that now."
