Our ethos
At NCA, each of us is a member of the College, whether we are students, staff, directors or partners. That means we are a community, and our ethos is built on the philosophy of supporting each other to be our best selves. We actively welcome challenge, positive change and diversity of thought and practice, and we strive towards inclusivity.
Collaboration and consultation is a cornerstone of our community. We collaborate and consult with each other, and with the wider world in which our community exists. And we support each other to collaborate and consult.
We are a community of lifelong autonomous learners – not just our students, but every member of the College. We are positive and proactive about our own personal and professional development, and our self-reflective practice. And we support each other towards lifelong autonomous learning.
The Student Perspective

The varying age groups and life experiences allow everyone to look at the same work with a different perspective. When we are given the opportunity to give our personal thoughts or opinions, they are insightful to hear. In general, no matter the age we are all in the same boat, learning something entirely new. Everyone helps each other.
We take personal responsibility, empowering ourselves and others to recognise our impact on others and the world around us, and to own that impact. And we support each other to take personal responsibility as appropriate.
We value integrity and authenticity in our community. To us, this means openness, transparency, honesty, mutual respect and ethical integrity. And we support each other to value integrity and authenticity.

Coming (almost) straight from school I was worried about being the youngest student, but I have fitted in really well. Everyone at the College is so warm and welcoming and treats me as an equal. Studying at the NCA is undeniably different to a standard university experience but I feel it is every bit as enjoyable and supportive.
