Dogs in College Policy

Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to set out the College’s approach relating to Dogs in the College.

Scope

This policy applies to all people entering the NCA building.

Definitions

In this policy, ‘assistance dogs’ refer to specially trained dogs such as but not exclusive to guide dogs, medical alert dogs, autism dogs and hearing dogs. They are dogs who support disabled people and people with medical conditions such as epilepsy, diabetes, hearing difficulties, physical mobility problems and more.

Policy Statement

The Northern College of Acupuncture is a warm and friendly Higher Education provider dedicated to supporting students, staff and visitors as much as possible. We strive to maintain an atmosphere that is welcoming to all. There are a few necessary considerations.

Dogs, unless they are assistance dogs, are not permitted in the College.

Patients and clients with assistance dogs are required to keep their assistance dog with them throughout their visit.

Staff and Students with assistance dogs should discuss this with the College Manager as we may need to make special arrangements to allow the dog into the college, including checking that the dog's presence will not disturb other staff and students in the building (they may have a fear of dogs, or suffer from allergies, for example).

We must also provide as clean an environment as possible, especially in the clinic areas.
