Support For Pregnant Students

When a student knows that she is pregnant, she should arrange to meet with her Course Director to discuss any arrangements and adjustments necessary during the pregnancy and in the months immediately after the birth. The Student Services Manager/Officer responsible for your course can provide a copy of the ‘Student Support Form: Pregnancy and Maternity’, which is used as a guide for the discussion. Please bear in mind that the student will not be able to confirm all details at the initial meeting and so information should be reviewed and completed as appropriate at key stages in the pregnancy (e.g. 16 weeks pregnant, 24 weeks pregnant, prior to return to study) or at key points in the academic year (e.g. prior to examinations and assessments).

The greatest risk to an unborn child is during the first 13 weeks of pregnancy and so health and safety risk assessments should be prioritised and carried out as soon as a student notifies the College of her pregnancy.
