Northern College of Acupuncture Online Chinese Herbal Medicine Clinic
Our online Chinese herbal medicine clinic is the teaching clinic for our MSc/PGDip in Chinese Herbal Medicine, providing a high level academic qualification and a practitioner training for acupuncturists learning to add Chinese herbal medicine to their practice. The clinic also offers observation opportunities for students from our BSc Acupuncture programme. We are all united in our passion for improving people’s health and well-being.
What happens when I go for treatment?
During your initial appointment a detailed assessment will take place. After you have told us about your concerns we will ask you more general questions about your health and lifestyle. We will look at photos of your tongue that we ask you to send in advance. All of this will help in making a Chinese medicine diagnosis. We will then prescribe a herbal formula for you. We make the formula and dosage appropriate and specific to you and your response to treatment is carefully monitored with regular follow-up appointments.
How do I take the herbs?
The herbal formulas are taken as concentrated powders, which are stirred into hot water.
How long do I take the herbs for?
A typical course of treatment would involve taking the herbs daily for several months. This may vary as each person and course of treatment is unique and individual.
How many appointments will I need?
Your initial online consultation which will last about one hour and you will have follow up online consultations throughout your treatment, to modify the formula as changes occur in your condition. Follow ups are generally once every two to four weeks and last approximately 30 minutes.
Who will I be seen by?
As this is a teaching clinic you will be seen by one of our highly qualified and experienced supervisors, Eileen Gibbon and Zhi-Hua Gao with a few students from our BSc programme in acupuncture present as observers.
Are herbs safe?
All our procedures comply with the Code of Practice of the Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine (RCHM). This safeguard ensures that all the herbal medicines we use have undergone thorough quality control checks.
