The Legend That Is The NCA!
We are proud of our legacy as one of the most prestigious acupuncture colleges in the Western world!

The NCA has been teaching people to become great acupuncturists since 1988 and was part of a handful of colleges that started in the UK at the point China opened to the West again in the late 1970s. Whilst in China, our founders Hugh MacPherson and Nick Haines saw an opportunity to start a College in the North of England - and the Northern College of Acupuncture was born.
Right from the outset the NCA have been focused on our mission – to educate our students in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) acupuncture, to ensure they have the skills and knowledge they need to become successful practitioners, and to promote acupuncture research so that the profession can continue to build on the increasing use of acupuncture in healthcare.
Over 35 years later we are still growing and developing in this mission and can reflect on some proud moments including being the first acupuncture course in the UK to gain professional accreditation.
Situated in the heart of beautiful York (and close to the train station) we are based in a beautiful Georgian building housing both the college and our vibrant teaching clinic. We were also the first acupuncture course in the UK to gain university validation.
The Student Take

"I love the NCA building! On entering the College, you are instantly welcomed into warm supportive environment. The period features give you a sense of longevity and let you know that plenty have come before you and many more will come after. The beautiful, cantilevered stone tread staircase dominates the centre of the building and is the main access to the light, bright teaching room, library with snuggle down reading chairs and a great space to study in. The building has a nice community feeling with plenty of opportunities for interaction."
