Our Students

Who are they and where do they come from?

Our students are a diverse group of people bonded by a common goal – to become great acupuncturists! As a student on our BSc in Acupuncture you will change your life so you can help to change other peoples lives.

Our students are:

  • People from all over the UK
  • People from all kinds of ethnicities
  • People looking for a completely different career
  • Older people wanting a new direction later in life
  • Young people starting out
  • Massage or complementary healthcare practitioners
  • Healthcare professionals adding acupuncture to their skills
  • People for whom this is their first academic study
  • People who have studied to degree level or beyond
  • Martial arts enthusiasts
  • Beauty therapists

There is not really a “typical” NCA student! Our students come from all over the UK with all kinds of backgrounds. Some students choose to study with us as a first career after leaving school, and some as a final career after retirement. Many of our students are choosing to completely change their career - often after experiencing the benefits of acupuncture themselves. Having a complementary therapy background, such as massage or reflexology is a popular springboard to adding acupuncture. We also have many Western healthcare practitioners studying with us who can see the benefits of adding Chinese medicine acupuncture to their existing practice.

Most of our students fit in their studies alongside work and other commitments, and many of our students use a student loan to help pay for their studies.

For many of our students, this is their first degree. Others have already studied on an undergraduate course or practitioner training. Some students come back to study after a long break, or have life and work experience rather than formal qualifications.

The Student Take

Billie Tafseer

"In the past, I had enrolled on a few courses and never really enjoyed my learning experiences. I had always followed the standard ‘norms’ when choosing a course and followed what other family and friends recommended. I found it difficult to adjust as a mature student to larger learning environments where I felt that there were far too many students to tutor ratio. I could be invisible and no one would realise that I existed. Sometimes, I wondered if any of the tutors actually knew my name. Today, I can honestly say that I am glad I chose to do something different and followed my heart by studying acupuncture at the NCA. Here at NCA, learning in small groups enables maximum support. In practical lessons, we have the benefit of 2 to 3 tutors on hand to answer any questions instantaneously, and guess what?... everyone knows my name."
